Word, Character & Letter Counter
Count words, characters and letters instantly. Your text stays in your browser.
One idea, three depths
Choose how deeply to explain word and character counting
The Word, Character and Letter Counter measures words, Unicode characters, characters without spaces, and letters entirely in your browser.
Age 5Explain it to a 5-year-oldStart with a picture
Imagine putting every word, space, letter, and emoji into its own little counting box. This tool counts the boxes in several useful ways without taking your writing away from the page.
Age 15Explain it to a 15-year-oldConnect it to the formula
Words are separated by whitespace, while characters include letters, numbers, punctuation, spaces, and emoji. A separate result removes whitespace, and the letter count selects Unicode letters rather than only English A–Z.
CollegeExplain it at college levelState the model precisely
The counter applies distinct token and Unicode-aware character classifications instead of treating words, code units, grapheme-like characters, whitespace, and letters as interchangeable measures. Processing occurs locally, so entered text is neither transmitted to MW SysArc nor retained in local storage.
What this counter includes
Words are groups separated by whitespace. Character counts understand full Unicode characters, and the letter count recognizes letters across languages instead of limiting results to A–Z.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Counting happens inside this page in your browser. The text is not sent to MW SysArc or saved to local storage.
What is counted as a character?
Letters, numbers, punctuation, spaces and emoji are characters. The separate “without spaces” result excludes whitespace, while the letter result counts only Unicode letters.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Text counter do?
Count words, characters and letters instantly. Your text stays in your browser.
How does the Text counter work?
The counter separates words at whitespace, counts complete Unicode characters, measures characters with and without spaces, and identifies Unicode letters across languages.
What can I learn from the Text counter?
It helps you distinguish words, letters, characters and whitespace, which is useful when writing for limits that count text in different ways.
Does MW SysArc receive or store what I enter?
No. The calculation runs locally in your browser. MW SysArc does not receive or store your calculation inputs.
How should I use the result?
Use the result as a practical reference and review the page's counting or dictionary conventions when exact limits or accepted words matter.
